Dostoievski

Reading Crime and Punishment by Fiodor Dostoïevski is something out of this world.

The description of sensations through characters he develops is very close to a feeling. I am fascinated by the capacity to explain feelings in a few words.

"People were visibly afraid of Katerina Ivanovna. The tenants, one after another, returned to their doorways with that strange feeling of satisfaction that one always observes, even among the closest of people, when sudden misfortune befalls their intimates. A feeling that spares no one, without exception, despite the sincerest sentiments of regret and compassion."
